Del Paso Heights Rallies To Support Families Of Grant High School Players
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The Del Paso Heights community is rallying around the families of two Grant High School football players who were shot before last Friday's playoff game.
Jaulon Clavo was killed while Malik Johnson is recovering from his injuries.
Christina Montano and her husband Marcel Montano cooked up 70 pounds of tacos and carnitas as part of a get together helping the families of the two players struck by Friday's gunfire.
"We just want them to know that we as a community are thinking about them and that we do care and we suffer as much as they do with their pain and their loss," she said.
"Myself and some other alum we started talking on Saturday and we decided this had to be done," said Marcel Montano.
The food was sold at Monday night's Grant High School football game, which was rescheduled after Friday's shooting.
"They're not the healthiest thing in the world to eat but they are delicious I can promise you that," Marcel said.
All donations will go to the victims' families. Christina doesn't know the parents of the players, but can't imagine their grief.
"For me as a mother, it's personal for me, because I would hate to lose one of my children," she said.
Marcel hopes the offering is a celebration of community.
"We come together as one unit for one cause and we wanted to make sure we kind of highlighted that today," he said.
