Defenseman Dan Boyle Expected To Retire With Sharks
Dan Boyle, the longtime San Jose Sharks defenseman, is expected to finally hang up his skates for the last time.
After 17 seasons, 1,093 regular season games, 130 playoff games and one Stanley Cup win with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the grey-bearded Boyle will end his illustrious hockey-playing career at the SAP Center. According to Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area, a press conference will be held for an official announcement on Wednesday.
Boyle, 40, spent the last two seasons with the New York Rangers, but spent his best NHL years as a Shark. From 2008 to 2014, Boyle was the best offensive defenseman on the team, and possibly the league. His 305 points in 431 games as a Sharks blue liner was unpreceded, cementing Boyle's name in the conversation of best Sharks defenseman of all time.
He was selected as an All-Star twice (2009, 2011) as a member of the Sharks and won an Olympic gold medal in 2010 along with teammates Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Dany Heatley for Team Canada.
