Damien Barling: Why Do Fans Still Hate Roman Reigns?
Maybe the better question is, why do fans still boo Roman Reigns?
Is it because the WWE went with him instead of Daniel Bryan when the crowd desperately wanted Daniel Bryan to be the guy? Is it because the creative forces behind the WWE booked him so poorly in his run to, what was suppose to be, his coronation ceremony in Santa Clara at Wrestlemania 31? Is it because they've tried to paint him as John Cena 2.0?
The answer to all those questions is probably yes. But isn't it time to get over that?
Do I want to see Roman Reigns as a more silent badass? Yes! Would I like to see Roman Reigns turn heel and become a beast similar to that of Brock Lesnar? Yes. Is any of that going to happen? Probably not. And if it does, probably not anytime soon.
But none of that is Roman Reigns fault.
The WWE made a mistake announcing Daniel Bryan's return to the 2015 Royal Rumble. The WWE made a mistake scripting Roman Reigns to say things like "sufferin succotash." The WWE made a mistake, when Roman Reigns got injured, not letting him disappear for awhile. They forced his presence weekly. We never got to miss him. In fact, we were sick of him by the time he actually returned.
The WWE made a mistake booking Roman Reigns to battle Triple H while Triple H conducted himself as a super charismatic babyface, doing crotch chops and moves to get the crowd to react to him.
The WWE has destroyed what was, and very much still could be, a massive superstar.
All those faults and failures were not Roman's fault. Dude is big, he's got a good look, and, believe it or not, he can actually wrestle. But the kid gloves the WWE treats him with has destroyed him.
He can be salvaged. I'm certain.
Step one - take the mic out of his hand.
Step two - turn him heel
Step three - keep the mic out of his hand
Step four - have him destroy opponents.
Step five - have him destroy opponents that matter
Step six - NO MIC TIME!
He becomes that badass again. The badass that was the muscle of the Shield when they were at their peek. It can still work but no matter what they do - its not Roman Reigns fault and its time to stop treating him like it is.
