Crews Searching For Missing Hiker In Sierra Nevada

KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) -- Search and rescue crews are looking for a 67-year-old Bishop man who disappeared during a 104-mile hike through the Sierra Nevada.

Kings Canyon National Park officials say John Williams left on a hike on Sept. 17 that would have taken him through elevations ranging from about 4,000 feet to up nearly 12,000 feet.

When Williams didn't come out of the wilderness as expected on Sept. 27, crews began searching for him.

Park spokeswoman Dana Dierkes describes Williams as "pretty well prepared" for the trek, with a tent and foul weather gear.

The National Park Service has about 45 people looking for him, while Fresno, Tulare, Kern and San Mateo counties have sent crews to help in the search.

Dierkes says the region has experienced fairly good weather recently, but there is a chance of snow Monday night.
