Crews Search Stanislaus River For Possible Victim

MODESTO (CBS13) – Crews are scouring a five-mile stretch of the Stanislaus River near Modesto after a witness reported seeing someone who appeared to be in trouble in an inflatable raft.

Modesto fire crews responded after the witness said he saw a man in an inflatable raft slumped over with his head in the river. Searchers found a raft and a life jacket but no man was located.

"The sighting sounded quite credible," said Modesto Fire Department Batt. Chief Hugo Patino. "We spoke with the heavy equipment operator. We brought him out here to the scene to take a look at the boat. He confirmed this was the boat he saw previously."

Boaters are making their way to nearby Caswell State Park. If they do not find any clues or a body, they will call off the search.
