Crews Mopping Up After Extinguishing 2-Alarm Fire At Stockton Recycling Center

STOCKTON (CBS13) - Crews are keeping an eye on hot spots and mopping up after putting out a 2-alarm fire at a Stockton recycling plant that burned for nearly eight hours.

The fire broke out at the East Stockton Transfer and Recycling Center on Weber Road and Filbert Drive. The fire broke out around 11 p.m. Thursday, sending large amounts of smoke all over Stockton.

"It's paper, cardboard and wood. It's all Class A combustibles. So the question that we keep fielding is, 'is the smoke hazardous? Are there concerns?' It's smoke, but it is (burning) natural products, as opposed to plastic or some kind of hazardous material," a fire spokesman said.

The fire was confined to the recycling center and did not threaten any other structures.

There are no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
