Crawford, Posey, Panik Win NL Gold Glove Awards
It took a few extra years, but Buster Posey now has a National League Gold Glove award to add to his extensive hardware collection.
The San Francisco Giants had three finalists for the defensive recognition, Posey at the catcher position, Joe Panik at second base and Brandon Crawford at shortstop. All three ended up winning.
Posey, former NL Rookie of the Year (2010), NL MVP (2012), three-time Silver Slugger, four-time NL All Star, Hank Aaron Award winner (2012), Comeback Player of the Year (2012), and three-time World Series Champion, will finally get that shiny glove.
For the past few years, the award has gone to Yadier Molina, who had won the award eight consecutive years in a row.
The Crawford-Panik duo makes it the first NL Gold Glove middle infield to win from the same team since 2002 (Fernando Vina and Edgar Renteria of the St. Louis Cardinals).
This is Crawford's second consecutive Gold Glove award victory after winning his first last season. Panik, who finished up just his second full season in the big leagues, takes home his first individual award.
