Crash In Stockton Knocks Out Power To Thousands, Damages Electrical Boxes
STOCKTON (CBS13) - Thousands of PG&E customers in Stockton were without power Monday after a truck hit a power pole.
The incident happened Monday on North Alpine Road around 8:30 a.m. and was affecting 5,800 customers in east Stockton.
A PG&E spokesperson says the crash caused a power line to fall across another power line. This resulted in a surge that damaged several electrical boxes. In one neighborhood, 800 homes lost power after the explosions.
"It was enough to Shake the house a little. Then we heard popping like popcorn or gunshots. The neighbor across the street, his meter doesn't look as bad but his receptacles are all blackened," said Brad Abernathy, whose meter exploded.
PG&E representatives told some residents power would be back on at noon, but residents wonder how this could be possible without meters. They also fear the possibility of fire if power is turned on that soon.
PG&E is setting up a command center on Arch Road.
