Craigslist Posting Helps Police Bust Drug Dealer

NEVADA CITY (CBS13) -- A posting for marijuana on Craigslist leads police right to a suspected drug dealer, according to investigators.

After a routine search online, police say they responded to the ad and set up a sting.

"Every once in a while, we'll have someone make it easy on us like this one," authorities say.

Pounds of marijuana were posted for sale on Craigslist; According to police, there were multiple advertisements for medicinal marijuana all with one phone number, which is what caught the attention of the Nevada County Sheriff's Narcotic Task Force.

When investigators contacted Gary Feise, 47, they say that he even asked if the undercover officer was a cop.

"The undercover officer said 'you look like more of a cop than I do', and he said 'I get that all the time'," say sheriff's deputies.

The deal was set up to go down in a K-Mart parking lot, and consisted of the sale of five pounds of marijuana at the price of $8,000.

"He made the comment to the officers, 'once I get done with this deal, I'm going into K-Mart to buy my kids Christmas presents'," officers say.

Instead of a shopping trip, the unemployed father got a trip to jail.

At his home, investigators found 19 mature marijuana plants.

Medicinal marijuana postings are very common on Craigslist, but investigators say it is against the law to grow marijuana for profit.

"We could spend weeks on end setting up deals; we just don't have the man power or time to get everyone on Craigslist."

CBS13 tried to speak to Mr. Feise, but he said that he didn't want to comment without a lawyer present.
