Couple's Wedding Week Delayed By Allegiant Flight Fiasco At Stockton Airport
STOCKTON (CBS13) - A new direct flight from Stockton to Hawaii caught the eye of a couple headed to the island to get married, but their new lives together have already experienced some turbulence.
It seemed like perfect idea to fly out of Stockton on Allegiant Air and head to Hawaii to get married and live happily ever after, but the road down the aisle hasn't been easy in the last 24 hours.
"I had a picture-perfect situation in mind and it just turned out to be a complete nightmare," Desire Flack said after the flight was delayed.
Desire and fiancé Chris Habr were supposed to leave Sunday for their dream wedding in Hawaii. They decided to fly their family of 14 on Allegiant Air out of Stockton. The airline just started flying to Honolulu last week.
"I thought it would be a good airline," she said. "I've seen them around. I see them doing the Vegas flights and why not?"
But when they arrived at the airport Sunday, they learned the flight was delayed six hours, then it was canceled altogether.
"Watching my bride cry five or six times today and not being able to do anything about it because I'm asking for answers and all I get is 'I don't know. I don't' know,'" Chris said.
When they returned to the airport Monday, Chris said Allegiant delayed the flight several more times.
According to Allegiant, the flight was canceled due to a mechanical problem and they only have five functioning 757 planes in the company, so they say it was too difficult to get another aircraft to Stockton to fly the passengers to Honolulu.
"I'm just at the absolute bottom," Desire said.
But it's costing Desire and Chris much more than the $1,000 a day in private condos they rented.
"My wedding is very important to me," Chris said. "That's why I'm here and trying to fly myself and 14 other people to have my wedding."
A wedding this couple thought would be pure bliss, but so far it has been more of a debacle.
"Everyone dreams of your most important day," Desire said.
The flight finally took off around 7:30 Monday night, so their wedding will take place even with this hitch on Friday.
Dozens of other passengers were also affected by the flight delays and all were offered vouchers on future flights with the airline, according to Allegiant. It also said it will pay for prepaid hotel bills for Sunday night.
