Couple Pays For Adoption Fees Of Dogs At Front Street Animal Shelter

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Front Street Animal Shelter was hoping for more adoptions this Christmas, but it got a shelter miracle instead: a secret Santa came in and decided to do something unprecedented for the precious pooches.

Dozens of dogs got a new purple tag - meaning they are now free to adopt - after a dog-loving duo paid the adoption fee for families who can't afford it.

"I'm really thankful that she came in to help them get their forever dogs," said animal care technician Shannon Quinn. "That extra money they saved they can spend on toys and foods."

Quinn cares for animals the shelter. When there's a need, she even fosters.

"She came in pretty sick and so I took her in," Quinn said about one dog.

But officials hope this shelter Santa changes the stigma surrounding shelter dogs.

"This has never happened in the history of the shelter," said shelter spokesperson Bobby Mann. "It's inspiring because we always like to change the public perception about shelter animals and show people that they can be great pets."

The shelter gets new dogs almost every day. Some never find homes. But this Christmas, Front Street managed to raise revenue and save lives thanks to an anonymous act of kindness for these four-legged friends.

The shelter is open on Sunday if you're interested in adopting an animal. Just look for dogs with a purple tag on their kennel if you're looking for one with no adoption fees.
