Cops: Man Held Wife Hostage For 3 Days

MERIDIAN, Calif. (CBS13) -- A Sutter County man is in custody on charges of beating and torturing his captive wife for three days in their condemned, trash-filled trailer.

Wayne Deniz, 22, was arrested Monday night after allegedly using a crowbar, baseball bat and other weapons on his wife to keep her from calling the police or escaping their small bedroom, according to Sutter County investigators.

The victim was only allowed to leave to use the bathroom and cook his meals, authorities said. She escaped after he fell asleep and called 911 from the home of a neighbor, David Banks.

"She made a phone call and the next thing I know, the cops were all over the place here," Banks said.

Neighbors said they've witnessed domestic disturbances in the past at the suspect's home and say Deniz is known as "Lil' Wyno," a troublemaker.

Deniz is being held at the Sutter County Jail without bail.

The victim is reported to be battered and bruised, but is expected to recover.
