Cooler Weather Gives Firefighters A Reprieve, But Rocky Fire Fight Far From Over
LAKE COUNTY (CBS13) — Weather conditions gave firefighters a chance to gain an upper hand on the Rocky Fire as it surpassed 67,000 acres on Tuesday.
Containment on the fire moved up to 20 percent with cooler temperatures and cloudy skies slowing the fire's spread.
Exhausted Rocky Fire evacuees who have eaten and slept in a Moose Lodge as they await news finally had a reason to smile on Tuesday. Cooler weather and even a few raindrops gave them hope.
For some, a day that began with fear of the unknown brought tearful relief.
Jennifer and Doug Marshall say the fact their home is standing is a miracle. They live not far from where the fire that has destroyed two-dozen homes started. Their home, once surrounded on all sides by fire is still standing.
"It's like a circle of blackness around my house so how they did what they did -- it's a miracle, it's a true miracle," Jennifer said.
Firefighters caution while they were able to gain some ground on the fire, it's still far from under control and appearances can be deceiving.
