Concerts Bringing Customers To Downtown Businesses

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Businesses have been reaping the benefits of increased attendance at music concerts around downtown in recent weeks.

The number of music lovers at concerts in Sacramento parks has skyrocketed along with the summer temperatures, nearly doubling within the last few weeks, and bars and restaurants say they are seeing a big increase in customers.

The Downtown Sacramento Partnership said restaurants have seen a 30 percent jump in Friday night bar sales alone.

"People seem to be coming in before the Concert in the Park to enjoy the happy hour and then go enjoy the park, and then even come back afterward," said Pizza Rock employee Koreena Schultz. "It's really nice."

An estimated crowd of 5,500 danced to Mumbo Gumbo and Los Blazing Hangovers while many businesses prepared specials and discounts to lure customers in immediately following the concert. Showing a red concert wristband at Pizza Rock, for example, gets patrons cocktails for half price.

The Concert in the Park events will continue every Friday night until August 12.
