Company Opens Call Center To Take Claims After Lincoln Propane Fire

LINCOLN (CBS13) – People and businesses impacted by last week's rail car fire in Lincoln can now make one call to file a claim.

Northern Energy, which is owned by Heritage Propane, has set up a centralized call center to handle claims from those affected by the massive evacuation.

Nearly 10,000 people had to be evacuated from a one-mile radius surrounding the Northern Energy yard in Lincoln after a rail car loaded with 29,000 gallons of propane caught fire. Many were out of their homes and businesses for two days.

"The strength and character of this community shone brightly during a very difficult time, yet we know that many of you made great sacrifices during the evacuation effort," said, Eric Beatty, Heritage Propane, General Counsel. "If you were affected by the evacuation effort, please contact us."

The toll-free number to call is 855-828-5137.

Also, Lincoln police arrested a 16-year-old accused of breaking into homes during the evacuations. Police say they've recovered the stolen property.

Children returned to Lincoln schools Monday. They had been scheduled to start last week.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
