Comedy Club Closing After Shooting

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (CBS13) -- A Fairfield comedy club is shutting down for good after a man was shot during a show Saturday night.

Fairfield police said it took multiple agencies and an hour to restore order to downtown Fairfield after hundreds of people flooded into the streets following the shooting at Pepperbelly's Comedy Club.

"Unfortunately, there was a lot of chaos afterwards," said Lt. Greg Hurlbut.

One man suffered life-threatening injuries in the shooting and is still hospitalized in critical condition.

The comedy club building's owner issued an eviction notice, which will force the establishment to pack up and leave.

Police forced next door bar owner Harry Petterson to close while they tried to restore order, something he says has happened several times before.

"Recently, it's hurt, because this is the fourth time I've had to close my doors when I should be open because of what's been happening next door," Petterson said.
