Collinsville Picks Through The Pieces After Fire Devastates Half Of Town
COLLINSVILLE (CBS13) – A small boy surveys the burnt remains of his home. His toys, games and pets gone – and no bed left to sleep in.
"I don't want to go to hotel, I want to go to Christopher's house," the boy says.
Where to go next – in Collinsville – has become the common question.
"We just lost everything, and we lost five dogs," says Liza Butorac, whose home was destroyed in the fire.
The fire that tore through this tiny town Friday destroyed eight homes – half of the community.
Butorac came back Saturday to pick through the rubble of her house. She didn't find much.
"There's been a huge amount of support from just the town and Rio Vista, and my family and friends – and people I don't even know," Butorac says.
A plumber came out to reconnect water lines ruined by the fire.
"The pipes like, you can see, they just melted," the plumber says.
Families are now left with no homes to call their own, and no choice but to rebuild for their next generation.
"I don't know what's next. Nobody really does," another resident says.
Solano County investigators are still trying to find what caused the fire.
