Citrus Heights police investigating deadly crash involving bicyclist
CITRUS HEIGHTS – A bicyclist has died after they were struck by a car in Citrus Heights Monday night, authorities say.
Citrus Heights police say, a little before 10 p.m., they started getting calls about a reported collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist on VanMaren Road, near Mercedes Avenue.
First responders found a bicyclist injured on the ground. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital, but police say the person later died.
The driver who struck the bicyclist stayed at the scene and has been cooperating with the investigation, police say. DUI is suspected to be a factor.
Exactly what led up to the bicyclist getting hit is still being investigated.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the bicyclist.
