CHP Officer Hurt On Bay Area Highway
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say a California Highway Patrol officer was struck by a vehicle while trying to help a stranded motorist in San Jose.
The officer suffered a broken leg after stopping on Interstate 880 around 1:49 a.m. Friday.
CHP Officer Steve Griefer says the officer was helping a driver in a pickup truck who was stuck in the mud when a driver in a Lexus hit the pickup. The pickup then struck the officer.
The officer's partner called for backup.
Griefer says the Lexus's driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Neither the driver nor the officer's name has been released.
