CHP: Teen Driver Escapes Serious Injury After Car 'Limboed' Under Crashed Trailer, Shearing Off Roof
STANSILAUS COUNTY (CBS13) – Authorities say a teenage girl is lucky she wasn't seriously hurt after her car "limboed" under an overturned trailer.
The incident happened Friday morning along rural Highway 132 near Paradise Road, due west of Modesto.
According to California Highway Patrol, a big rig driver lost control after the trailer drifted into a gravel shoulder. The trailer flipped onto its right side and came to a rest perpendicular to both lanes of the freeway.
A 16-year-old Modesto girl in a Honda - who was driving in the same direction as the big rig - couldn't stop in time and instead drove under the drawbar of the trailer - shearing off the roof of her car.
Miraculously, despite the damage done, both the girl and a 21-year-old passenger in the Honda escaped with just minor injuries.
In the opposite direction, another car also couldn't stop in time and crashed into the overturned big rig. That driver wasn't hurt.
Highway 132 was closed for several hours but was reopened by late Friday morning.
