CHP: Male Escort Transaction Sparked I-5 Violence

-->

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Residents are learning what allegedly took place at a Sacramento apartment complex early Monday morning, and what their neighbor 25-year-old Clifton Damarcus Sharpe is accused of doing.

The CHP says Sharpe and his two roommates, Martin Andrade, 21, and Brady Dee Douglas, 26, had an escort customer from Stockton visiting their apartment Sunday night. When the customer left, he apparently didn't leave enough money, prompting them to chase after him in a wild scene that played out on Interstate 5.

"He's always been a really nice guy to us," neighbor Michelle Bryant said of Sharpe.

Armed with a handgun, they jumped in their car and went after the customer demanding more money, the CHP said.

"That's wild. I guess you never know," said another neighbor, Al Fuller.

CHP officers say the three suspects raced north on I-5 into Woodland threatening to shoot the fleeing customer.

Desperate to get away, the customer then travelled south on I-5, and that's when shots allegedly rang out. The Stockton man veered his Ford and Sharpe's Nissan was fired upon by a 9mm semiautomatic weapon, the CHP said.

The customer eventually ditched his car on the freeway and ran. CHP investigators tell CBS13 the victim was so terrified that he ran across four lanes of traffic to a Walgreens distribution center.

The customer lived to tell about it, however, several innocent motorists were taken to the hospital because of collisions suffered after Douglas stopped his car on I-5.

The three suspects were arrested, and Douglas was charged with attempted murder. The other two face attempted robbery charges. They were booked into the Yolo County Jail.

I-5 was shut down for several hours as CHP officers sorted it all out.

"I'm glad that no one got killed out of the whole deal, and I hope he learns a lesson," Fuller said.
