UPDATED: Man Killed In Fatal Gas Station Shooting Identified
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A child was caught in the middle of a Saturday shootout at a south Sacramento gas station. When police arrived, the child was safe in his car seat, but the driver was dead.
"They just right out of the window started shooting people," said witness Ronald Baker.
Investigators are now trying to figure out what lead to the deadly shooting at a Arco gas station in the 6600 block of Mack Road.
"There was some sort of exchange of words. I don't know if it was a confrontation," said Sacramento police Officer Doug Morse.
Witnesses say the people inside the two cars were arguing, but about what is still unknown.
"They pulled up and they were shooting at everybody. I thought 'you gotta be kidding me.' They had an automatic, shooting at everybody, car after car," said Baker.
Darryl Hill, 25, was killed, while the other two people and child were taken to the hospital.
Baker says he witnessed several people at the gas station with guns.
"Somebody got a gun out, was going to shoot them, didn't do it. They got away," said Baker.
The shooting came at a busy time, right off of Highway 99, for dozens of people to see the horrifying scene play out.
"It's tough to believe that just at a gas station, something like this would happen," said Ray Shoblom.
Detectives will review footage from security surveillance to see if the cameras captured who fired the fatal shots.
