Central Valley Band Teacher Accused Of Recording Girls
RIVERDALE, Calif. (AP) -- A high school band teacher in the Central Valley is accused of taking videos of young girls changing in a school closet.
A federal grand jury indicted 25-year-old Steven Christopher Montes on three counts of sexual exploitation of minors on Thursday.
Authorities say Montes, who taught at Riverdale High School in Fresno County, filmed three girls -- two aged 17, and the other 14.
He was arrested in August after a girl found a laptop in a closet at the school and notified another teacher, who discovered it was recording. The girl allegedly told a sheriff's deputy Montes had asked her to try on her band uniform, and she wasn't aware she was being recorded.
Montes' attorney, Mark Broughton, says his client plans to plead not guilty. Broughton says he thinks Montes should be prosecuted in state court, not federal court.
