Carmichael Student, 14, Arrested For Threatening Instagram Post
CARMICHAEL (CBS13) – Detectives say a 14-year-old student has been arrested on allegations he posted a threat online to John Barrett Middle School.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, school officials learned about the threatening post Wednesday evening. Deputies say the threat was posted to Instagram and featured a picture of a gun along with threatening language.
The student who posted the picture was soon identified and, a little before 8 p.m., deputies showed up to his home.
At the home, deputies say they found a weapon matching the one posted to Instagram – a black airsoft handgun with its orange-colored safety markings removed. The student, only identified as a 14-year-old boy, was arrested at the home and has since been booked at the Sacramento County Juvenile Detention Center.
The boy is facing a felony charge of making criminal threats, along with a misdemeanor charge of removing the safety markings of an imitation firearm.
An increased officer presence will be at the school today.
