Carmichael Standoff Ends In Arrest
CARMICHAEL (CBS13) -- Deputies took a suspect into custody after he allegedly shot a man in an apartment complex Sunday afternoon, triggering a standoff with authorities.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said 31-year-old Joseph Reyes shot a man in the head following an altercation just before 2:00 p.m., seriously wounding the victim.
When deputies arrived at the scene, witnesses indicated the shooter had entered a second story apartment at the Terrace at Fair Oaks complex on the 5800 block of Sutter Avenue and hadn't been seen since.
Authorities evacuated several nearby units and set up a perimeter around the suspect's apartment, ordering him over a loud speaker to exit the home.
Reyes allegedly didn't comply at first, but surrendered without incident after about 15 minutes. Investigators recovered a handgun inside the apartment that they believe was used in the shooting.
Reyes is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon. The victim is expected to survive his injuries, authorities said.
