Deputy: Drag Racer Responsible For Collision With Parked Car In Driveway
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A car crashed into a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home in south Sacramento Wednesday morning.
It wasn't the wakeup call Mary Ibarra was expecting.
Out of nowhere, the sound of metal crunching could be heard.
"My sister just came into my room and she's like, 'They crashed your car, they crashed your car.' I'm like 'what?' " said Ibarra.
Ibarra went outside and saw her car crumpled up like a piece of foil.
"We just came down here and my car is in the garage. I was like, 'What? That's crazy.' " she said.
The crash happened on San Bruno Way and Fleming Avenue. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, two cars were racing at more than 70 mph when deputies began chasing the cars. One got away and the other lost control and slammed into a car parked in the driveway of a home, causing it to go through the garage door.
"Neighbors seen people running away, try to chase them, but they didn't get anybody," said Ibarra.
Deputies set up a perimeter, brought out a K-9, but couldn't find the two men. The car left behind was destroyed.
"The passenger was injured. The front windshield has substantial damage to it," said Sgt. Tim Wetzel.
For Ibarra, it gets worse.
"It's crazy cause it's my graduation today, and I'm like, 'How am I going to get to my graduation?' It's crazy. I was like, 'Oh my God, that's my car. What am I going to do?' I'm like, 'Brother, I'm going to need your car.' " said Ibarra.
Deputies say the car was not reported stolen at the time of the chase. The culprits are still on the loose.
