Cameron Park Man Allegedly Wanted Wife Killed; Drugs, Illegal Guns Found In Home
CAMERON PARK (CBS13) - An El Dorado County man, who allegedly wanted his wife dead, is behind bars because investigators say he couldn't keep his mouth shut.
Deputies originally came to Josh McGee's home after he allegedly threatened to kill his wife. When investigators showed up, they found themselves opening a Pandora's Box of illegal guns and drugs.
A Facebook picture of the couple shows happier times in their marriage, before El Dorado County deputies say something changed when McGee allegedly told his mother he wanted to kill his wife.
"He should be taken as a threat if he's calling to do that," said one neighbor.
Deputies came to his Santos Circle home in Cameron Park to investigate the alleged threat when they found high-powered weapons that could have carried out the murder.
"(Investigators) told us that they found some chemicals next door, likely used in the production of methamphetamine and asked us to leave," said neighbor Mark Heiman.
Along with the alleged meth lab, investigators say they also found several illegal machine guns, ammunition, and body armor.
"I couldn't imagine parents doing that," said Heiman.
Neighbors tell CBS13 that McGee lived at the house with his wife and two young children.
"It's a neighborhood that you would not anticipate having a meth lab next to your house, or people having automatic weapons in your neighborhood either," said Heiman.
Fortunately McGee's wife was not harmed and why he allegedly wanted her dead is still unclear.
"Something could have definitely gone wrong, seriously wrong, and put us in jeopardy," said Heiman. "Yeah, we are happy to see them gone."
McGee was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on a federal hold facing weapons and drug charges.
