Call Kurtis: My Carpet Cleaner's Been In The Shop For A Year

An Elk Grove pastor took his carpet cleaner in for repair and never got it back. The store owner promised to replace his machine but he still hasn't come through.

Kevin McDowell says he's been patient, but he's tired of hearing excuses.

"Yeah, I'm a neat freak," says Kevin.

Being without his carpet cleaner is getting on his nerves.

"This is the area we like to stay on top of with the shampooer," Kevin says, showing us his high-traffic carpet area.

About a year ago he took his machine to Pat Frost Sew & Vac in Elk Grove. After a few months, Pat admitted the machine had been taken apart and couldn't be repaired, so he gave Kevin a note promising he'd replace it with a new machine by November 19th, 2011.

"I just kept giving him a chance and a chance because he sounded sincere. But that grew old," says Kevin.

"Clearly a year is unacceptable," says the BBB's Gary Almond.

Almond says this is why your repair order is important. You should have the repair company list a fix-by date right on your paperwork.

"You should have a real clear understanding of when the actual repair date's going to be," says Almond.

Kevin says his initial repair order was just a claim ticket. We asked Pat Frost: what's going on with Kevin's replacement cleaner? He claimed the wholesaler that sells them, has been giving him the runaround. But he's still promising Kevin a new carpet shampooer.

On the day we aired this story Kevin was able to pick up the machine from Pat Frost Sew & Vac. At first glance, Kevin says it looks good.

"All forgiven, all done, its closure," says Kevin.
