Call Kurtis: Homeowner With Spotty Windows Finally Able To See Clearly

We've got an update to the Elk Grove homeowner with mildew trapped in between his sealed windows.

Under warranty, he tried to get them replaced.

But when the company claimed he had a different set of windows, he called Kurtis.

He lives in the 9-year old subdivision of Elk Grove called "The Preserve."

He had a warranty in hand so why did the window company tell him he has a different set of windows?

"Sort of relieved because I knew it was going to be Alside Windows," said Chester Chu, Elk Grove resident.

Chester knew he had Alside Windows but the company said otherwise.

"It looks scary, I'm not sure if it's spore life growing in there," said Chester.

When mildew and moisture showed up between the sealed dual panes, he filed a claim within his 10 year warranty.

But the company denied it, saying he had a different brand of windows.

"I looked at the warranty I got and I compared it to my neighbors and it was exactly the same," said Chester.

And look, we checked with his neighbor too. Sure enough there's nothing different. The warranty is for Alside Windows.

We also contacted the builder, Centex Homes, which has since been taken over by Pulte Homes. They confirmed Chester's windows are Alside.

When we reached out to Alside's parent company, Associated Materials told us...

Somehow, Chester was "given a warranty for products made on the east coast."

Agreeing the windows have a "seal failure"  they agreed to replace all 10 of his windows.

"We have a failed insulated unit," said Tony Zakhir, Owner, Glass Pro's in Elk Grove.

Almost six months after Chester first filed his claim, Associated Materials sent out a local window installer.

Zakhir says he's not surprised to see the windows failed because they were mass produced during the housing boom.

"Unfortunately it's quite common, with the newer houses that were built in the early years of the 2000's," said Zakhir.

Now with 10 new windows, Chester is glad he can finally look through the glass without seeing spots.

'I'm going to enjoy my backyard, my views now, I guess now of the backyard, without rubbing my eyes to see if I'm still looking at spots," said Chester.

Pulte Homes also confirmed that all 90 homes in that subdivision have Alside Windows.

So what happens if other homeowners have problems with their windows?

Associated Materials tells us quote, "we honor all our product warranties."
