Major power outage restored at California State Prison, Solano
VACAVILLE – Power was restored Tuesday to California State Prison, Solano after an outage that occurred over the weekend.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) had been running the prison on an emergency generator since the outage Sunday, which also impacted residents in the city of Vacaville.
The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) said power was restored just before 2:30 p.m. The utility company said it was not their issue or equipment that caused the outage but the prison's electrical equipment.
PG&E clarified that the prison's electrical equipment impacted their own equipment on Sunday, which led to thousands of Vacaville customers being without power.
The CDCR said Monday that security at the prison was not compromised by the outage.
"The health and safety of all individuals living and working within our institution are our top priority," CDCR said in a statement Monday.
California State Prison, Solano is a medium-security facility located south of Vacaville. It houses around 3,300 prisoners, according to CDCR.
