California 'Bouncers' Get Training In Terrorism Awareness

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - California has become the first state in the country to pass a law creating a license for all "bouncers" that focuses on much more than weeding out fake ID's.

This new license requires all bouncers, also known as Proprietary Private Security Officers, to obtain a criminal background check, register with the department of consumer affairs and receive a minimum of 16 hours of job specific training.

If you're that buff guy on guard in the club telling drunks to settle down, you're likely to get in a fight. Bouncers are vulnerable to getting sued -- even as many as two years after a bar brawl.

And the training isn't just about checking valid identification. At least two hours of the training focuses on Weapons of Mass Destruction and Terrorism Awareness.

"Hospitality worldwide is a constant target of terrorism," said instructor and Nightclub Security Consultants President Robert Smith.

In California, a violation for working as an unlicensed security guard could cost the guard or the employer $5,000.00.
