Calif. To Send Voter Forms To Insurance Enrollees
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California has agreed to mail voter registration cards to nearly 4 million people who signed up for insurance through the state's health care exchange.
The American Civil Liberties Union announced the settlement with Covered California on Monday.
The ACLU of California says it threatened to sue the state for failure to comply with the National Voter Registration Act. The act is designed to make it easier for voters to become or stay registered to vote by requiring application opportunities at all offices that provide public services.
The ACLU says that despite going live in October, Covered California provided no such opportunities.
Now, Covered California is promising to send registration cards to all those who enrolled by May 5.
