Calif. Thief Steals Girl Scouts' Cookie Sales Money
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say they have arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of stealing money from a Girl Scout troop that was selling cookies.
San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said that after surveillance footage was widely aired they identified the suspect Colin Sawyer and arrested him at a gas station in the Phelan area on Monday night.
A night earlier, the Girls Scouts reported that a young man grabbed a bag of money from their table outside a Stater Bros. supermarket.
The victims were packing up their supplies to go home just before 7 p.m. when the thief took the bag and ran.
One Girl Scout chased him, but fell, causing minor scrapes and scratches.
The man was captured on surveillance video entering the store.
The amount of money taken was not disclosed.
