Sacramento Republic Releases Rendering Of Proposed Field At Cal Expo
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - We're getting our first look at the facility where Sacramento's minor league soccer team, the Republic, could be playing in 2014.
On Thursday, a Cal Expo board of directors' sub-committee announced it is moving forward on a proposal with Ovation Food Service to build an 8,000-seat, multi-use facility that would include a soccer pitch, according to a statement on the team's website.
The field would be have natural grass, and have the same dimensions as international soccer fields. None of the money used to pay for the facility would come from tax dollars.
The website also unveiled this rendering of the facility.
If plans to build the facility are approved, construction could begin at the end of 2013, with the facility ready for the start of the team's inaugural 2014 season.
The board will meet on December 13 to vote on the final agreement.
