Cadillac Crashes Into South Sac House, Interrupts Thanksgiving Preparations
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A family's preparations for Thanksgiving dinner were interrupted Thursday morning when a Cadillac came crashing into their house.
The accident occurred at a home in the 7400 block of 24th Street in South Sacramento. The car went into the dining area and a grandmother in the house just missed getting hit, CBS13's Ron Jones reports. She was hospitalized as a precaution after complaining of back pain.
"They went right through the fence and hit the house," said neighbor Alfred Lobatos, who witnessed the accident.
The family who lives in the house didn't want to give their names but the woman's daughter said they were preparing a Thanksgiving feast when the Cadillac slammed into the living room.
"I'm thankful that she's OK," the woman's daughter said.
It started when the Cadillac came flying down 24th street early Thursday morning.
"They tried to make the turn onto Casa Linda Drive and lost control of the vehicle," said Keith Hughes of the Sacramento Police Department.
Lobatos saw it all.
"And all of sudden I turned this way and the car just like lost control and came right through the fence and hit the house," he said. "I didn't hear no brakes."
Apparently the only thing to stop the car was the house.
"And then they tried to back up," Lobatos said. "They tried to take off."
Police say the driver and his passenger bailed out and ran.
As bad as it looked, the family is keeping it in perspective on this Thanksgiving day.
"Other than that we're thankful we're healthy," the daughter said.
