Buy It And Try It: The Swivel Sweeper

It's called the Swivel Sweeper. It picks up everything from dust to the big stuff. Weighing only two pounds, this little unit is also rechargeable. But does it live up to its claims?

Gaby Castillo says she cleans as many as 20 houses a week but her industrial vacuum gets plugged up from time to time; pennies are often the problem.

"We have to take it apart and it takes awhile," said Castillo.

She also gets tangled in her vacuum's cable and the machine has a tough time picking up grime in corners.

"The problem areas are around the fridge, the stove, and the chairs. We have to move all the chairs out of the way," said Castillo.

No more problems with the new Cordless Swivel Sweeper, right? Maybe...

"With its 360-degree swiveling head, it easily glides over any surfaces and picks up any direction without changing settings. It swivels and picks up like no other," says the TV commercial for the unit.

It supposedly works on wood, tile, even carpet. It'll pick up dirt, coins, even bolts.

We needed to put the Swivel Sweeper to the test. After charging up the battery, we put it together in minutes and Gaby went to work.

With ease, it picked up dirt in the entryway. Coins on the carpet got sucked right up.

"It's easy to maneuver, and it's easy to handle," said Castillo.

But, how about thick bolts? After a couple passes, they got sucked up too.

When we try to pick up pennies and bolts on the kitchen floor, then we had a problem -- it wouldn't pick them up.

What about dirt in those hard-to-reach places, like under the table and under the fridge and stove? We make a mess and watch Gaby clean up the mess under the table just like that.

"I stayed in the same spot, and didn't have to move the chair, it swiveled around it. It's great," said Castillo.

In the corners, the swivel sweeper gets most of the dirt, but not everything.

In the end, Gaby pops out the tray and dumps the mess. She's a fan and says she'd recommend the Swivel Sweeper. The charge on the battery lasts about 45 minutes. I paid $34.99 for the Swivel Sweeper at target. This is the third product made by Ontel. All of the Ontel products we've tried have worked including the Microfiber Miracle Cloth and the Dryer Balls.
