Buy It And Try It: Slice Wizard

The Vidalia Slice Wizard says it's safer and easier than a knife, with
uniform slices every time. Let's see if that's true.

We've checked out a Vidalia product before: The Vidalia Chop Wizard.
But when executive chef Jaramie Smith at Sacrament's 4th Street Grill
tried it out, our Chop Wizard didn't survive a potato.

But now Vidalia has come out with something else. We return to see
Jaramie, to see if it works better.

He's laid out a spread of fruits and vegetables to slice up. "I'm
anxious to see how it works," he said.

According to the box, it slices, dices, minces, chops and juliennes.
It comes with five different blades.

We'll start with carrots.

Jaramie puts the veggie into the special grip, and then starts sliding
it back and forth.

At first he struggles to get it moving, but then it works. Seconds
later… look at the carrots.

"Yeah, it's nice," he said. "That looks great."

Compare that to how much time it takes to julienne carrots with a
knife. "It saves a lot of time with those carrots."

Not let's attach a thicker plate, and Jaramie will cut up some bell
peppers. "Works great," he said.

Now onto something softer: a tomato. Again, perfect slices for hamburgers.

Let's try something harder, like an orange. "Oranges being sliced just
fine," he said.

Finally, the potatoes. These are what broke our Chop Wizard.

But no such problems this time. The potatoes are thinly sliced. "That
seemed to work well," he said.

He even julienne's them to make French fries. In just about ten
minutes, look at what we've cut up!

"I think it's a good product," he said. Jaramie's impressed, and may
even pick one up for himself.

"I would say buy it," he said.

I paid $19.99 and bought it at Kohl's. It's also available online.
