Buy It And Try It: Salon Bronze

College student Kristi Hockenson enjoys being tan, but she admits that
she's a bit pale.

The rays of the sun can be dangerous, but she hasn't had good results
with at-home sunless tanning lotions.

"I did it a long time ago, and I turned orange," she said.

I brought her the At-Home Salon Bronze Airbrush Tanning system, which
promises a natural looking tan that lasts seven to 10 days, and
promises that you won't streak or turn orange.

"It kind of looks like a little scary," Kristi said.

She inserts the cartridge into the sprayer and first sprays it into a
paper towel. She puts a band aid on her arm so we can track her
progress, and she starts spraying herself.

The directions state you have to keep the sprayer a foot away. Kristi
finds that tough, and with it comes globs. She cleans it up then goes
for her legs.

Minutes later, you can see the difference, especially on her legs. She
uses a sponge to apply it to her face.

"I mean, I feel like I look a little bit tanner, I don't know about
streaks," Kristi said.

There are streaks on one arm, a few dots on the other, which all
happened after she struggled to keep the sprayer a foot away.

"I think it would be easier to have someone spray it on you," she said.

The first band aid test shows a clear difference in color. She applies
a second coat, as suggested, and records a video diary of her progress
over the next week.

She says at first, it looked good, but it quickly faded, and there's streaking.

"It's been six days, the spray tan has almost faded completely," she said.

On day eight, looking at where her band aid was, there's no evidence
of the tan. She followed the directions and says it does last a couple
days, but nowhere near the seven to 10 days.

"You just wanted to look tan for one night, then maybe it would be
good, not for 10 days," Kristi said.

I paid $14.95 at AsSeenOnTVGuys.com. You can get a month's worth of
replacement cartridges for $24.
