Buy It And Try It: Flexi Snake

For half a century, McDonald Plumbing has unclogged the drains of Sacramento homeowners.

"A drain cleaning keeps us pretty busy," says Vince McDonald.

Vince has run the family business for the past 23 years.

Today his team has come to help Lyn Mackenzie with a water heater, but we want to know about her drains.

"Do you think your drains are clean," I ask.

Lyn responds with a simple," Yes."

Let's find out.   I give Vince my flexi-snake hair clog tool.   Its maker claims it snags drain hair like magic.

So we're going to try it in Lyn's guest bathroom sink.

Plumber Vince has never heard of the flexi-snake.

"It looks like a Velcro end on it, and a cable, but it's flexible," says Vince.

He thinks it just might work.   And according to the directions, you don't even have to remove the stopper.  Just stuff it down, twist and tug.

"Oh boy, we got some hair there its soap and grime and soap film," explains Vince.

And he removed this mess in seconds.

We head to the master shower to see what we've got in there.   Again, Lyn thinks we won't find anything.

"I don't really have bad plumbing problems," she says.

So what do we have here?

"Oh goodness gracious," Lyn says surprised.

"Oh my gosh, tell me this is over five years and it's not just an overnight thing," says Lyn.

"This hair could've been in here for many many years," explains Vince.

So, Vince admits he's impressed with the flexi snake.

We asked Vince if he thought the flexi snake was going to put him out of business.

"Nah, we've got plenty of drains more complicated than this," Vince says.

"I actually think I might want to buy a package of those, just to keep around for that time when you don't want to call the plumber," says Lyn.

We paid $6.95 for a pack of three, and we bought the product at flexisnake.com.
