Burglary Arrest May Have Solved Dog Dragging Incident

DAVIS, Calif. (CBS13) -- A man arrested in a series of burglaries may be tied to a hit-and-run that left a dog severely injured last month in a Davis neighborhood.

The Davis Police Department said they arrested 46-year-old Jimmy Medel after an attentive neighbor noticed a stranger taking items from a nearby home on Thursday.

Medel allegedly had stolen goods in the back of his vehicle, the same type of car reported in a burglary at the home of Davis resident Matt Sullivan in June. Authorities said they found more stolen property from other burglaries at Medel's home.

Sullivan said he was returning home from walking his dog, 15-year-old Ivy, when he spotted an SUV in his driveway and a man he didn't know. The suspect immediately fled in his vehicle, nearly hitting Sullivan and dragging Ivy for three blocks by her leash.

Ivy suffered a few cuts and broken teeth but was otherwise unharmed, Sullivan said.

"Ivy's doing just fine," he added.

Sullivan caught the first few letters of the suspect's license plate -- 6CY -- which Davis Police said matched Medel's license plate.

They are only calling him a person of interest in the dragging incident, but say he could become an official suspect within a few days.
