Burglar Targets Biotech Firms In Davis

DAVIS, Calif. (CBS13) -- Police are investigating a string of thefts at biotech companies, and say the numerous incidents are likely connected.

At least a dozen separate smash-and-grab burglaries have been reported recently in the Research Park area in east Davis, with three taking place late Saturday night.

"We've had businesses hit for as many as 10 laptops," said Davis Police Lt. Paul Doroshov. "The area is the same, the time frame is consistent."

One of three businesses hit on Saturday was Agraquest Incorporated. Inside was a terrified woman cleaning after hours.

"She fled as soon as she saw him, but you never know who you're dealing with and you never know what a person's gonna do when you get cornered," said Doroshov.

Fortunately, no one has been hurt in any of the break-ins.

Business owners say they are on high alert and are considering upgrading security in order to catch the crook and prevent further damages.

Investigators have only released a vague description of the suspect: African-American male, medium build, wearing dark clothing and a black hooded sweatshirt.
