Burglar Breaks Into Lodi Rite Aid Through Roof, Steals Prescription Meds
LODI (CBS13) – A burglar skipped the door and spent a lot of time making his own entrance at a Lodi Rite Aid Saturday morning.
"When they arrived on scene they found the back door open," said Corporal Eric Bradley from the Lodi Police Department.
Lodi Police say they responded to the store on West Lodi Avenue around 5 a.m. after the alarm went off. They discovered prescription pills swiped from the shelves, the thief long gone and a hole in the roof.
"[The suspect] went down to where the prescription narcotics are kept, grabbed as many as they could and ran out the back door," Bradley said.
It's an unusual way to break in, but it happens.
In 2011, a Kwik Stop business owner showed us the damage a burglar left behind when he cut a small, foot-long hole in the roof.
"And I don't know how they would do it without making a commotion of some kind," said shopper Ron Benrose.
And maybe Lodi's burglar didn't get caught in the act, but there were eyes on him.
Police say they're relying on surveillance cameras in the store to catch the crook.
"They're going to get caught one way or the other; they're going to get caught," Benrose said.
Police say the burglar knew the general layout of the Rite Aid and that is attached to other stores, because he knew exactly where to cut to get above the pharmacy.
