Build-A-Bear's 'Pay Your Age Day' Draws Massive Lines

ROSEVILLE (CBS Local) - Pay Your Age Day didn't go exactly as expected for Build-A-Bear-Workshop. Massive lines all around the country have forced the retail company to close off lines. The company released the following statement on its website.

"Per local authorities, we cannot accept additional Guests at our locations due to crowds and safety concerns. We have closed lines in our U.S. and Canada stores. We understand some Guests are disappointed and we will reach out directly as soon as possible."

Long lines started forming before stores even opened Thursday morning, including at the Build-A-Bear Workshop in the Roseville Galleria.

Some people woke up at 4 a.m. to get in line.

At the Vintage Faire Mall in Modesto, lines were still long outside the Build-A-Bear store as of early Thursday afternoon. The line stretches from one side of the mall to the other.

Build-A-Bear Workshop has since released another statement, saying they are making vouchers available to their Bonus Club members in response to the long lines.

"We understand that many Guests were turned away as, due to safety concerns created by the crowds, authorities in certain locations closed Build-A-Bear stores and, in other locations, we were forced to limit the line," Build-A-Bear wrote.

The voucher is available only through midnight July 15. The vouchers will be good until August 31, 2018.
