Brush Fire Threatening Homes In Northern Los Angeles County
ACTON, Calif. (AP) -- Firefighters aided by water-dropping helicopters are battling a 5-acre brush fire in Los Angeles County that has already burned at least one structure.
The fire erupted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the semi-rural area off State Route 14 north of Los Angeles and threatened scattered structures.
County fire Inspector Matt Levesque says 200 firefighters are assigned including a structure-protection group.
Weather is hot -- in the 90- to 100-degree range -- but winds are light.
Levesque says many of the homes in Acton have good brush clearance but there is heavy vegetation in the area.
