Brown Out Delays Response To Overnight Fire At Sacramento Home

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Sacramento City budget cuts may have delayed fire fighters responding to a house fire overnight.

The fire started just after one this morning in the 3900 block of 7th Avenue.

A man that lives in the home called 9-1-1 when he found his house on fire.

Sac City fire fighters were delayed to the scene because of brown outs which means a company is put out of service for 24 hours in a particular part of the city.

The station that would normally respond to this fire is only one block away but was out of service because of brown outs and budget cuts.

The crew that did respond came from a station 40 blocks away.

But crews say the budget is hitting everyone hard.

"Everyone is affected in some way.  The only thing we can do is continue to do our job as good as we can," said Jonathan Burgess of the Sacramento Fire Department. "Definitely leaving at least one company in service to respond."

The man who lived in the home was taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation.

No word on what caused the flames.
