Brown Calls On More Stimulus Money To Spur Job Growth

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) –- "The governor of the state of California, Jerry Brown."

The rousing applause from union faithful on Labor Day came as California labors through some dismal times that's causing most in our state to hold their applause-.

From the recently unemployed to those who have been out of work a long time, the story is getting old.

With an unemployment rate at 12 percent -- only Nevada's is higher -- Brown gave us his answer to what our state needs.

"We need a stimulus, we need investment because the only way we're going get this economy going is if the president and the people of Washington start spending mone," Brown said during a Labor Day event for state workers at Land Park.

While some might argue "been there, done that," others in our state don't want the debate, they just want a job.

Things are looking a little better--according to research from simplyhired dot com. Job openings nationwide from July to August were up 4.5 percent. The California numbers were even better at 7 percent.

But competition in California is tough, For every one job opening, there are seven unemployed people.

"It's not surprising but it's horrible, horrible statistics," said one recently laid off worker.

So where do you start to look? The simplyhired dot com research might point you in the right direction. Companies who've hired the most recently in California are the U.S. Air Force followed by Sutter Health, Catholic Healthcare West, Intel and Staples.
