Brother: Misunderstanding Could Be To Blame For AMBER Alert Deaths
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS13) - A misunderstanding over custody papers may have be to blame for the deaths of a kidnapped toddler and her father.
Family members of Mourad 'Moni' Samaan are defending him.
He's suspected of kidnapping and killing his 2-year-old daughter, Madeline.
Custody documents show Samman's ex-wife petitioned for him to lose visitation.
But the suspect's brother says Samaan misinterpreted the order thinking he was losing custody.
"You could see Moni physically deteriorate over the years as he fought this battle," said Nabil Samaan, suspect's brother. "I believe it led my brother to think that he was going to lose all his visitation rights."
The coroner's report on the death of Samaan and his daughter has not been released.
