Broken Water Main Shuts Down Elk Grove Roads
ELK GROVE (CBS13) — A broken water main in Elk Grove has shut down roads for most of the day on Tuesday.
Thousands of gallons of water spilled onto the street and onto people's properties when the main burst at around 2:45 p.m.
Homes around Franklin Boulevard and Lake Pleasant Drive looked like riverfront property with the rush of water gushing from the broken main.
"I'm still trying to get over there. I'm still venturing through the high tide."
Jordan Anderson eventually got to his parents' house to check for damage.
No homes were flooded, but the water kept creeping closer and closer, making Raymond Ursua very nervous about damage to his home and car.
I decided to bring it up. I was trying to park it there, but I think it was going to rise."
And some homeowners say they don't have flood insurance and wondered what would happen if the waters kept reaching all the way into their front door.
Insurance agent Jeff Beck says standard homeowners insurance won't cover a flood from a source off the property, like a city water main. He says flood insurance would be your only protection.
