Broken Hydrant In Antelope Gushed Water For Hours
ANTELOPE (CBS13) -- A broken fire hydrant shot water out for more than two hours early Thursday morning.
The scene was near Scotland Drive and Elverta Road in the Antelope area.
Crews first arrived on scene a little before 4 a.m. after reports that water was gushing as high as a light pole.
It took crews a little over two hours until they were able to shut off the water. In that time, about 1,000 gallons a minute of water flowed out – meaning about 120,000 gallons of water were lost. The water flooded the street and even flooded multiple rows of storage units nearby.
Neighbors say fire hydrants in the area have been hit and broken before.
The water company believes someone hit the hydrant and took off. California Highway Patrol investigators are looking into the incident.
