8 Explosive Devices Found In Stockton Home Rendered Safe; Nearby Residents Return Home
STOCKTON (CBS13) — A Stockton neighborhood was evacuated Wednesday after an explosive went off in a man's hand.
At least eight homemade explosives were found inside the home on Bristol Avenue, not far from Madison Elementary and Madison Park.
Natalio Ramirez stood outside his Stockton home watching as deputies secured a nearby house where deputies found the manmade explosives.
Authorities haven't said exactly what the devices are other than some appear to be homemade pipe bombs, others fireworks.
"It's pretty close, you know," Ramirez said.
Deputies responded to the home early Wednesday morning after someone inside called 911 asking for an ambulance. When deputies showed up they found a man in his 40s who they believe was working on one of the devices when it exploded, injuring his hand.
Some surrounding neighbors were told to leave their homes.
"I would have never guessed," said Jeanette Keamohui. "If it didn't explode in his hand we would have never known."
She now thinks twice about which way her son should walk the dog.
"It's a little scary to have to worry about that I've never had to worry in this area it's so quiet," she said.
A quiet neighborhood now leaving people wondering why anyone would allegedly have several homemade explosions inside their home.
"It is scary to see what kind of dangers are so close to your home where you are raising your kids for 11 years," Keamohui said.
No one else inside the home when that homemade explosive went off was hurt. The man did undergo surgery and we're still waiting to learn if he will face any charges.

As of 5 p.m., the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office was still working to render the devices safe. In a tweet, the sheriff's office warned residents they may hear a couple "bangs" as the bomb squad works.
By 6:45 p.m., the sheriff's office issued an "all-clear" and said all devices had been rendered safe. Residents on Bristol Avenue are now able to return home.
